The Minnesota Turkey Growers Association (MTGA) was formed in 1939 and has a long and rich history of representing the state’s turkey farmers.
Our mission: Dedicated to fostering a successful Minnesota turkey industry and its ability to make positive contributions to consumers, the economy, the environment and to its members.
WHAT WE DO
MTGA advocates for the industry through lobbying efforts, media relations, communications efforts and materials, website/social media and special projects. The wisdom gained from decades of experience is an incredible asset to MTGA members. MTGA works side-by-side with the Minnesota Turkey Research & Promotion Council to provide complementary services. MTGA members pay annual dues to join the organization, and in return, are eligible for a myriad of benefits.
Board of Directors
Membership categories within MTGA exist for farmers, government/university personnel and allied companies. Membership dues are collected annually.

MTGA Annual Report
MTGA bestows several awards to its members and others on an annual basis.
- Ranelius Award
The Ranelius Award is the most prestigious honor given by the MTGA. The award is named for Sven Ranelius, a founding father and 2nd president of the MTGA, often described as a quiet, unselfish person who was very dedicated to the turkey industry in Minnesota. Nominees are evaluated on two central criteria: their contribution to the industry over a period of time; and the quality of that contribution.
- Allied Lifetime Achievement Award
MTGA’s Allied Lifetime Achievement Award honors individuals in allied industries who have provided excellent long-time service to Minnesota’s turkey industry (20+ years) and are well-respected by his/her peers and MTGA members. The award is given annually at the MTGA Summer Meeting.
- President’s Award
This annual award is presented to a worthy individual by the current MTGA President. The recipient is chosen specifically for his or her dedication and commitment to the goals of the organization.
