Turkey To Go focuses on the classics at the 2019 Minnesota State Fair
Giant Juicy Turkey Sandwich celebrates 20 years at the fair

(Buffalo, Minn.) … Since 1958, Turkey To Go, the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association’s (MTGA) restaurant at the Minnesota State Fair, has had a strong presence at the Minnesota State Fair and is a can’t-miss destination for many fairgoers. The reason is simple: Turkey To Go’s favorite turkey menu options honor the timeless classic protein that turkey is, and make it a perennial State Fair favorite. In fact, in 2012, Turkey To Go was named the very first “People’s Choice for Best Fair Food or Beverage” voted on by fairgoers.

While the classic Turkey To Go menu remains a constant year after year, the flavors are still bold and delicious! The Giant Juicy Turkey Sandwich is an all-time favorite that debuted in 1999 and has garnered Turkey To Go a wide variety of media coverage reaching beyond the Great Minnesota Get-Together from food bloggers and national culinary talent alike:

“The large, squishy-soft bun is loaded with tender, flavorful turkey that’s been shredded and chopped. This is great for when you’re looking for something that’s filling and not fried,” said Brenda Score, author at A Farmgirl’s Dabbles blog. I like to eat it with some BBQ sauce, but the sandwich has so much flavor you really don’t need it.”

“The hot pulled, baked turkey is dressed many ways, but I take mine plain – with spoonfuls of the cooking liquid thrown on by request,” said Andrew Zimmern, host of Bizarre Foods. “[The Giant Juicy Turkey Sandwich is] sloppy and perfect.”

Complimenting the Giant Juicy Turkey Sandwich are Slow-Roasted Turkey Drumsticks and the Tasty Turkey Sunrise Sandwich, debuted in 2015. Rounding out the menu is Turkey To Go by the pound, the perfect way to take part of the State Fair experience home!

One of purposes served by Turkey To Go is getting people to think of turkey beyond the classic Thanksgiving meal and incorporate a variety of cuts and recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Minnesota’s proud turkey farm have a driving passion for promoting and serving nutritious, convenient, on-the-go turkey products to fairgoers.

“Minnesota’s turkey companies have developed more than 2,000 different turkey products for consumer enjoyment, said Lara Durben, MTGA Interim Executive Director. “That type of innovation and the knowledge and expertise of our multi-generational turkey farm families have led to Minnesota’s growth over the last 80 years to the number one turkey-producing state in the nation.”

Turkey To Go is owned by the MTGA with day-to-day operations handled by The Turkey Guys, Drew Levin and Daniel Perkins. While MTGA handles much of the behind-the-scenes details of the operation prior to and during the State Fair, The Turkey Guys bring in their staff to run the concession stand, including cooking and serving turkey to hungry fairgoers. What’s clear from day one of the State Fair is that everyone involved in Turkey To Go loves turkey!

Lastly, MTGA is proud to announce that a portion of every sale at Turkey To Go will be donated to Hunger Solutions Minnesota (www.hungersolutions.org), an organization that is dedicated to ending hunger. This is the twelfth straight year of continuing this tradition of giving back.

(Buffalo, Minn.) … Turkey To Go, the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association’s (MTGA) food stand at the Minnesota State Fair, is celebrating 60 years of selling delicious turkey products to fairgoers.

Minnesota turkey farmers have always been forward thinkers and passionate about raising birds. Sixty years ago, turkey was considered more of a seasonal product mainly around the holidays, but our farmers saw its big potential. That’s why they made a commitment to serve turkey in a variety of ways and highlight it as a convenience food to consumers at the Minnesota State Fair, starting back in 1958.

Today, this driving passion for promoting and serving a quality product to fairgoers remains the same.

“Stopping by Turkey To Go is a favorite food destination — truly a staple — of fairgoers enjoying Minnesota State Fair since 1958,” said Steve Olson, MTGA Executive Director. “When people come to the fair, they expect a great turkey product and we have aimed to deliver that quality guarantee for 60 years.”

Throughout the past 60 years, the food stand’s name was changed four times; from “Turkeyteria” (think cafeteria), “The Turkey House”, and “Pilgrim Tom’s Takeout Turkey” to what we fondly know today as “Turkey To Go.” The food stand has also featured many different products including: turkey steak sandwiches, turkey noodle casserole, and grilled turkey tenderloin sandwiches, to name a few.

“It is exciting to see what changes 60 years have brought to Minnesota’s turkey farmers and Turkey To Go,” Olson said. “We are certainly optimistic for new opportunities to raise, promote and serve turkey in the next six decades!”

Flash-forward to this year and Turkey To Go is pleased to offer a tremendous line-up of mouth-watering turkey options starting with the newest product that debuted in 2017 — turkey ribs!

These ribs are meaty, tender, juicy, and so flavorful — everything you would expect from the turkey experts at Turkey To Go. The all white meat ribs sell for $9.50 per serving and come in three flavor choices: original, sweet glazed, and buffalo.

The turkey ribs will complement a menu wholly focused on turkey — from the signature Giant Juicy Turkey Sandwich and Slow-Roasted Turkey Drumsticks, to the Tasty Turkey Sunrise Sandwich. Rounding out the menu is Turkey To Go by the pound that will sell for $16.75 per pound.

Turkey To Go Debuts Breakfast Sandwich at the Minnesota State Fair

For immediate release

Contact:

(Buffalo, MN) … The Minnesota Turkey Growers Association (MTGA) – proud owners for 57 years of the Minnesota State Fair concession stand Turkey To Go – are excited to announce the debut of a breakfast sandwich this year.

The “Tasty Turkey Sunrise Sandwich” features our signature Turkey To Go product, an egg, and slice of American cheese on a bun. The sandwich retails for $7.00. Fairgoers will also have the option of swapping the bun for a croissant (additional $1.00 charge) and/or adding  turkey bacon, if they wish, also for an additional $1.00.

Turkey To Go’s State Fair roots began in 1958, first under a rented canvas covered frame and the name “Turkey Teria”. Later (and several new buildings along the way), Turkey To Go grew into what it is today – a perennial State Fair favorite concession stand. In fact, Turkey To Go was named the very first “People’s Choice for Best Fair Food or Beverage,” voted on by fairgoers in 2012.

Today, Turkey To Go is still owned by the MTGA with day-to-day operations handled by The Turkey Guys. While MTGA handles much of the behind-the-scenes details of the operation prior to and during the State Fair and is responsible for upkeep to the building and equipment, The Turkey Guys – better known as Drew Levin and Daniel Perkins – bring in their staff to run the concession stand, including cooking and serving up turkey to hungry fairgoers.

MTGA Executive Director Steve Olson says the goal of Turkey To Go isn’t much different than in 1958, when Minnesota’s turkey farmers had the foresight to envision turkey as a year-round protein choice with plenty of variety to suit everyone’s tastes.

“Our farmers and Minnesota’s turkey companies have always been leaders in innovation,” said Olson. “Well over 2,000 different turkey products are now available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That type of innovation and the knowledge and expertise of our multi-generational turkey farm families have led to Minnesota’s growth to the #1 turkey-producing state in the nation.”

Also a long-standing tradition at the State Fair, MTGA is proud to announce that a portion of every sale at Turkey To Go will be donated to Hunger Solutions Minnesota (www.hungersolutions.org), an organization that is dedicated to ending hunger. This is the eighth straight year of continuing this tradition of giving back.

(Buffalo, MN) … With the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association (MTGA) celebrating its 75th anniversary this year as an organization, and its concession stand, Turkey To Go, entering its 56th year at the Minnesota State Fair, there’s a whole lot of history worth celebrating!

MTGA was formed in 1939 by several turkey farmers in the state who wanted an organization that could bring the turkey industry together and collectively work to improve and expand turkey production in Minnesota. Several decades later, the organization was going strong and turkey farmers were looking for new ways to promote the consumption of turkey on a large scale. Participating in the Minnesota State Fair was an obvious choice.

In 1958, the humble beginnings of Turkey To Go started, first under a rented canvas covered frame and the name “Turkey Teria” and later, several new buildings along the way, Turkey To Go grew into what it is today – a perennial State Fair favorite concession stand. In fact, in 2012 Turkey To Go was named the very first “People’s Choice for Best Fair Food or Beverage”, voted on by fairgoers.

MTGA Executive Director Steve Olson says the goal of Turkey To Go isn’t much different than 56 years ago – to showcase to fairgoers that turkey can be a delicious, nutritious option for meals all year-long.

“Turkey has always been the centerpiece of the classic Thanksgiving meal, but today, it’s so much more than that,” said Olson. “Minnesota’s turkey companies have developed over 2,000 different turkey products so consumers can enjoy a variety of different cuts and recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  That type of innovation and the knowledge and expertise of our multi-generational turkey farm families have led to Minnesota’s growth over the last 75 years to the #1 turkey-producing state in the nation.”

Also a long-standing tradition at the State Fair, MTGA is proud to announce that a portion of every sale at Turkey To Go will be donated to Hunger Solutions Minnesota (www.hungersolutions.org), an organization that is dedicated to ending hunger. This is the seventh straight year of continuing this tradition of giving back.

“Minnesota’s 450 family farmers have 75 years of history behind them, raising the highest quality turkey for consumers,” said Olson. “We’re humbled by these many decades of success and we’re looking forward to what the future will bring.”
